Dazzle Rats Rattery

The Creation of Dazzle Rats Rattery...

I adopted my first rats for my 7 year old daughter in 2008 after months and months of internet research. It was during my web page browsing that I fell in love with these creatures and their loving personalities and antics. I was unaware that Ratteries actually existed. Not just in Australia, but overseas aswell. I was excited by my new found love for rats and wanted to share the tales and antics with anyone who would listen. However, I soon discovered that rattie lovers are far and few between. But I was determined to welcome one (or more) of these animals into my home.

During my research, I discovered that pet shops were not my only source for our intended adoptions, nor, as it turns out, were they by any means, the place to ensure I adopted friendly and healthy rats from. Pet shop purchased rats are usually mass bred with little regard to the health and temperament of the rat. This may be due to focus purely on profit, or more innocently due to lack of education.

As well as being able to purchase "brand new" rats, there was also another type of rat...
A Rescue Rat. A rat that needed a new home as it could no longer continue to live at its current home. Who would have thought that rats could need rescuing? This got me thinking that not only did i want to change people's perspective, i wanted my first adopted rat(s) to be ones needing whats known in the rat world as a 'Forever home'.

So, my first owned ratties came from a young girl who was unable to care for them any longer. They were both mature females and were friendly and healthy. They needed a 'Forever home' and I was able to lovingly provide that. Straight away I was hooked. I did more and more research from both Australian and International breeders and Rat Societies (yes, they do exist). I was dazed by the world of Fancy Rats and was saddened knowing that people perceive them as dirty and disease carrying vermin. That couldn’t be farther from the truth!! It was then I was determined to better the rat species and the way in which they are perceived. So, Dazzle Rats Rattery was created........
